This online one-to-one mentoring clinic entitles you to 90 minutes of focused time with Michael. Please note, this mentoring clinic is designed for artists working in the medium of charcoal, whether as a dedicated practice or alongside other media. To get the most value we have structured this engagement in 3 parts:

  1. Pre-session preparation:
Here you submit work you want Michael to respond to as well as context in relation to your wider practice and your own questions. Michael will review this material and prepare for your scheduled session. We recommend spending time and reflection in this part to get the most from the mentoring.
  2. Scheduled session:
This is a 30-minute online one-to-one video conversation with Michael. The call will be based on the material provided as part of the pre-session preparation material.  This call will be recorded and shared with you for reference.
  3. Post-session follow up:
Following the call and further reflection, Michael will send follow up notes and suggestions.

Frequently asked questions

  • What will I get by signing up to this mentoring clinic?

By signing up to this clinic you will benefit from 90 minutes of Michael's time concentrated on your practice. This time will be spent providing advice and guidance tailored to your individual needs.

To get the most out of this time, we strongly recommend that you engage with the pre-session preparation which will require some effort on your part.

  • Who is this suitable for?

This will suit artists working in charcoal and who have made some progress in their work but still have questions or are looking from an outside perspective.

It will particularly suit artists who are interested in bringing an element of interpretation to the landscape or who are struggling with composition.

  • What is involved in the pre-session preparation?

The pre-session preparation is a core element of the clinic as it will drive the agenda for your call and the follow up. Therefore we recommend that you spend time in this step to ensure the best outcomes for your session.

Once you have booked your session you will be provided with a link to an online form where you can provide photos of the work you want to discuss, sources of inspiration you have, questions or topics you want to address in your session with Michael and links to other examples of your work.

  • When do I need to have the pre-session preparatory work done?

Please ensure you have the preparation work complete and submitted at latest 2 days before your planned session. This will ensure that Michael can review and prepare her initial notes on time for your session.

  • Why can't I just get 90 minutes of facetime with Michael?

We have optimised the engagement to help delivery the most value possible from the 90 minutes of time by providing 3 separate touchpoints with Michael as outlined above. This provides separate moments of reflection each in a different form that enables the best use of the time overall.

  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule the session?

By booking a session you are committing to purchase 90 minutes of Michael's time. There is no option to cancel and claim a refund for this time once booked. Michael has made available a limited number of time slots to choose from. Please ensure that you are available for your session. If for some reason you are unable to make your session, it may be rescheduled at the sole discretion of Michael and based on his availability.

If you miss your session you forfeit the ability to reschedule the session. If you are late to the session, you will have less time for your conversation with Michael.

  • What technology or apps do I need to avail of this mentoring?

You don’t need to install any app to follow this course. All content and tools are on the Big Look website which you can access using your favourite web browser (e.g. Chrome or Safari). The mentoring session will run inside the website also, so there is no need to install or use Zoom.

To get most value out of this class you should use a PC or Mac laptop or desktop computer or an iPad rather than a phone – as larger screens are better for this type of content. Please ensure that your device speakers and mic work so that you can both hear the content and also ask questions on the live session. • What happens if I have a technical issue?

Once you sign up to the session you, will have the opportunity to join a test session to ensure that everything works in advance.
